Rosso di Montalcino is made with the same grapes as Brunello (100% Sangiovese) and a similar vinification but the ageing is shorter (1 year in oak casks), so the structure is that of a younger wine, simple, elegant and fresh with lots of fruit on the nose which continues through to the palate.

It has a fruity perfume, rich, intense and persistent. Its great structure does not in the least diminish the freshness of the wine, which is ready to be enjoyed with pleasure after just one year.

It has an intense ruby red color, which tends towards garnet with age. Scented, high-toned aromas of red berries, sweet spices and flowers, with a note of candied red cherry emerging with air. Fine-grained and floral, offering excellent energy and lift in the mouth, and attractive inner-mouth perfume to its red berry flavors. Finishes clean and persistent, with smooth tannins.

As a result it has a beautiful caramel color, with a more refined and smoother tannic taste, reminiscent of roasted chestnuts.

Very ripe fruit with an almost Bordeaux like character, less earthy than other Brunellos but there were spices and secondary flavors. A nice long 30 second finish with a great nose. Only distraction was the color was almost brown like root-beer. A real nice wine experience.
